Bourtange
Pentagonal fort Bourtange was initially built in the sixteenth century to control the road from Germany to Groningen. In the 1970's, the star fort Bourtange is reconstructed to its original shape. It became an open-air museum. Nowadays, it offers a wonderful experience to study the Dutch system of fortification in a flat and wet country.
