Zaragoza 2026 ICHME-9
The International Conference on the History of Mathematics Education 2026 is held in Zaragoza. My contribution is about the 10th century Arabic writing scholar Ibn al-Samh who wrote Kitab al-Amal bi-l-Asturlab, a manual on the use of the astrolabe. It does not contain mathematics, but rather 130 recipes how to operate the astrolabe.
Mercè Viladrich translated the Arabic into Catalan in 1986. I prepared a translation into English.
