Holy Shrine of Imam Ali

The shrine of Imam Ali is located in Najaf, Iraq and is the place where he has been buried. Following the collapse of Saddam Hossein and the presence of Iranians, the shrine is being expanded. Recently a large courtyard is being been built in the western section of the shrine, and it has been named after the Lady Fatima (a). It will increase the total area of the shrine to 140,000 square meters.

It starts with a frame, today iron, but bamboo in the old days.

First they make a concave gypsum muqarnas. Then they take convex mould. This is the convex mould.

Then they put papers on the faces of convex mould and cut the papers in the shapes of faces of convex mould And then draw the floral designs on the papers and then they stick the pieces of the papers on the 15+15cm square shape ceramic tiles in various colours and then cut the shapes These are the behind of ceramic pieces.

And then arrange the pieces on the convex mould and pour gypsum liquid on them as a glue in order to unify the piece.

And then they destroy the concave muqarnas and replace it with ceramic.
